It’s Tuesday, and we are uncovering another great Treasure, Going Downstream. What in the world do I mean, Going Downstream? It’s all about the struggle, everyone struggles in life, but since we are all human beings, it is essential to know when it’s time to let go. What is your struggle right now? Are your thoughts getting in the way? Whatever it might be, let me share with you how to turn around and stop going against the current. It’s time to let go and start going with the flow.
One of my struggles that I dealt with was the nagging of my inner voice worried what others thought about me. Talk about going upstream; it did not feel right. I soon realized that the main culprit for the struggle was my mindset, I allowed my thoughts to take me towards the wrong direction, upstream. I knew that I had to do something and fast. Back in 2014 I read different books, did lots of research and one day I stumbled across Leo Gura’s video, “How To Stop Caring What People Think Of You,” it changed my life. He gave me a statement to repeat for ninety days for five full minutes to change my mindset. It goes like this...
“I am completely independent of the good or the bad opinions of others”
I read it out loud for five minutes daily for ninety days. That’s right, ninety days and I didn’t skip a day. I still have the affirmation with me; it goes wherever I go, and I am now traveling downstream.
I shared with you one struggle, but this technique can work with any battle you might be experiencing. I am a believer in keeping things simple, and below I broke down the steps for you to start your journey as you go downstream, the effortless way.
What is your challenge right now? Whatever it is, take responsibility and make it your priority to change it. What are your thoughts on it? Since it’s a struggle, you must work on the way you are thinking about the situation. By being aware you can work with it better. Once you have identified the thought, it’s time to interrupt and let go.
Interrupt your thoughts
It’s time to break the habit of overthinking about the situation or problem and redirect it to a better feeling thought. My example was that I cared too much about other people's opinions, yours could be that you are always nagging at someone about something that needs to get done. Your goal is to think clearly and to communicate better to reach the results that will make you feel better. Once you have interrupted your thoughts, it’s time to change it.
Create an affirmation
Now take any situation that has been challenging you, and create a statement around it. Visualize what your results need to look like, for example, I am an excellent communicator, or I am completely independent of the good or the bad opinions of others. Anything that is positive, anything that creates a happy feeling. Now, take the affirmation and repeat it out loud for five minutes daily, do that for ninety days. The goal is to change your thought pattern, and once you accomplish the change, you will be traveling downstream and going with the flow. The path of least resistance, where the magic starts to happen.
In summary, who likes to struggle and feel bad all the time? Hopefully not you, it’s time to take control of your life, your thoughts and your actions. Start today, be the person you are meant to be.
