How To Manage Your Jealousy With Confidence

July 31, 2018

"Jealousy, that dragon which slays love under the pretence of keeping it alive." Havelock Ellis

Such a sore subject, jealousy. Even though this is a natural instinctive emotion, it isn’t fun to feel jealous. Today’s Treasure is Taking Control Of Your Jealousy. The moment you feel insecure, shameful or possessive you run the risk of feeling tormented in such a way that the green monster will take over. It’s time to stop and take the time to learn how to manage your jealousy.

When I decided to write this blog post, I sat and thought about my jealous tendencies, and I realized that I outgrew the green monster by consistently developing my personal development. I didn’t even notice that I don’t feel jealousy as often as I use too. Let me tell you, I feel free, and the freedom that I have internally is all worth it. That’s why I decided to share with you what steps I took to overcome that nasty negativity that lives inside of us.

Let’s take a look at the actual definition of jealousy, “Jealousy is an emotion; the term generally refers to the thoughts or feelings of insecurity, fear, concern, and envy over relative lack of possessions, status or something of great personal value, particularly about a comparator.” Wikipedia. Yes, jealousy can be overwhelming when your thoughts take you into a state of suspicion that tends to ruin your closest relationships. It’s time to start managing your suspicious behavior.

Recognize You’re Jealous

When I felt jealous, I would not even realize it. I now self-monitor daily, how I do that is I become self-aware of how I’m grappling with every situation that arises. I know when I’m anxious, mad, angry and even jealous. That is my first indicator to take control. Start today, start self-monitoring by knowing what type of emotions are rising up for you.

Remind Yourself Of Your Positive Traits

I’m continually reminding myself of all of my good qualities. Do it, next time you see yourself in the mirror tell yourself how beautiful you are, how active you are and how intelligent you are. It works, keep pointing out your good traits on a daily basis. Bring out the power you have within.

Manage Your Emotions

The way you manage your feelings is by taking deep breaths and calming yourself down. Talk yourself out of that jealousy, tell yourself a different story. Besides, the more in control you are, the better the outcome. If you find yourself jealous with good reason, then, even more, you need to bring in your inner dialog on your side. You are the winner, always ask yourself, “what is my strength right now”? Think of a time that you were confident, and stick to that feeling. Bring out your advantage in every situation, minimize the drama and keep your head up high. That’s the real power. But, you have to believe in your ability to be powerful.

Shift Your Point Of View

Shifting your point of view will allow you to see things differently and let the anger subside, and then you can do something else. It’s a form of reframing and redirecting your mind.

In summary, I’m not here to tell you that it’s easy, or that you will practice these points and it’s all going to be good. But, I am here to tell you that you have a personal power deep inside of you that you can control, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Jealousy is terrible, and it robs you of the happiness that you are meant to feel. So, take control today and overcome it one day at a time.
